Let's take a look at the before and after. . .

What do you think? Our stairs are made from hot rolled steel. I wanted something different than the average looking wooden tread stairs and we thought this bent steel number would be right up our alley!
BEFORE

AFTER

I love the modern feel of the stairs and how they are open underneath. Some mamas out there may be concerned since there are no handrails, but we aren't worried since we have no children.

You can see that we still have to fix the air vent. That should be finished soon!
We've actually been doing lots of "functional" work around here lately. This is very exciting because it means life is getting easier and we are getting closer to the part I love- making everything pretty! But really, it is nice to skip up some stairs (rather than scale a ladder) when I need to take a shower or brush my teeth! Wooo hoooo! :)
Back tomorrow with more updates! :)
Very industrial! I can't imagine having to climb a ladder to get to my bathroom. Glad you have a more comfortable (and safer) way to access your shower!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebecca! I'm very happy to have the ladder gone. . . but now I have a big hole in my floor! :( More about that on Monday.
DeleteLove the stairs!! I totally know what you mean about a ladder: I live in on the second floor of an old victorian and my room/studio is in a loft area. To get up their I have to climb an old library ladder, super awesome looking but ridiculously impractical!! I am totally a stair ninja now and can climb up or down holding my laptop and art supplies without even holding on:)
ReplyDeleteHaha, that's awesome! Allison the ladder ninja! :) I bet that set up is visually stunning! Sometimes I am totally for a little extra work if it means the scene looks good!
DeleteThey're awesome! Sleek, modern and different...3 of my favorite things.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dana! 3 of my favorites as well! ;)
DeleteSo different, I love it! Are the edges sharp?
ReplyDeleteHey Dacia! No, the edges are not sharp. The metal is 16 gauge, so it's too thick to be sharp, but strong enough to hold weight without bending. :)

They look so good! I love an unexpected element. This may be a dumb question but....do you have to brace them so they won't sag in the middle?
ReplyDeleteHey Launa! Thank you, we love our new steps! :) The metal is 16 gauge, so it's strong enough to hold weight without bending.
DeleteThe stairs are awesome and oh so lofty!
ReplyDeleteMakes me long for a loft space to reno...some day!
Glad you like them Andrea! We have loved our loft so far. . . I think we'll be in this space for a while! :)
DeleteClean lines, sturdy, love it. I'm also loving all the art I'm seeing on your walls. Your space is looking great!
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful as everything else. Now on the practical side, isn't it slippery when wet?
ReplyDeleteThank you Edson! :) I definitely wouldn't put these outside with so sort of grips applied to the top, but inside our home their sleek style hasn't been a problem.
DeleteI love them!! They are very urban and cool. Are they loud at all when you step up them?
